We believe the arts are an essential part of a child’s education. Volunteer surveys of SAT test takers reveals that students who take arts courses have higher math, verbal and overall SAT scores than students who do not take arts classes.
We know that participation in musical arts has declined in many parts of the country. According to the Washington State Arts Commission, many K-12 students in Washington State are not receiving any arts instruction. Many schools struggle with finding and/or training qualified staff, finding the time for the arts in schedules committed to literacy and math, and allocating money for the arts in tight budgets.
This is where community arts programs, such as the Capital Area Youth Symphony Association (CAYSA) come in. Since 1982, CAYSA has provided high quality symphonic experiences and performance opportunities for young musicians. CAYSA fosters life-long awareness and appreciation of the musical arts among youth and adults in the community.
We provide opportunities for students who want to expand their knowledge of music and participate in performances with peers who have a similar interest – and we are proud to have the finest talent in conductors.
